Books will also be on sale. No registration required. \nIn the ever more competitive race to secure the best possible future\, today’s students face unprecedented pressure to succeed. They jam-pack their schedules with AP classes\, fill every waking hour with resume-padding activities\, and even sabotage relationships with friends to “get ahead.” Family incomes and schedules are stretched to the breaking point by tutoring fees and athletic schedules. Yet this drive to optimize performance has only resulted in skyrocketing rates of anxiety\, depression\, and even self-harm in America’s highest achieving schools. Parents\, educators\, and community leaders are facing the same quandary: how can we teach our kids to strive towards excellence without crushing them?

DESCRIPTION:Do you wonder how to open the door for conversation with your child\, who seems to be changing rapidly — and responding with BIG emotions even more rapidly — who communicates primarily through social media\, and who seems to be evolving into someone you aren’t sure you really know? \nDo you need help finding ways to approach them so they actually listen? You are not alone. \nThis presentation is designed to support parents in navigating some of the difficult topics of adolescence\, including body changes\, emerging sexuality\, and increasing peer relationships. Parents will learn concrete strategies to support their child and practice skills to keep communication open. \nThis program is open to the public and is part of the District 34 ParentConnect Program. D34 ParentConnect is the parent education initiative designed to provide ongoing opportunities for parents to learn and connect throughout the year.
