About Me: Previous work includes being a resident counselor at a maximum security juvenile detention facility and high school teacher in the Anacostia area of Washington, DC.
Beth Irwin, MA, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor who joined Family Service Center in 2013. She earned her teaching certification from the University of Iowa and her Master of counseling Psychology from Northwestern University. She brings nearly twenty years of professional experience supporting individual and systemic growth within the community, working across numerous educational and mental health-related settings. Beth specializes in assessment and treatment of children and adolescents, and has counseled individuals from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of presenting issues, such as: adjustment issues, attention-deficit/ hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. She has a psychodynamic approach, though experienced in several methods which focus on strengthening the therapeutic relationship and helping clients self-actualize and meet the goals that they set out to achieve. She also greatly enjoys providing education and resources to help parents be a positive source of support to their family.
